Challenging Exercises for Athletes to Add to Their Winter Routine

Routine Exercise

Most athletes have two types of exercise regimen: one for the period between spring and fall, when the weather is suitable for outdoor training and a different one for winter, when most of the exercises are done indoors. To maintain strength, stamina and speed, both regimens need to be complex and focused – qualities that are more difficult to maintain in winter, so here are a few great, efficient exercises that can be added to your winter routine to guarantee efficiency:

  • Switch to a treadmill – indoor environments being milder, you will notice that covering your usual running distance on a treadmill is easier than outside, so to maintain efficiency, try to add a few miles to your routine or set the machine to hill mode;
  • Spinning – a great alternative to riding the bike outside and very often an activity that is more efficient and more exhausting that pedalling outdoors;
  • Swimming – a very efficient form of exercise that allows you intensify your training;
  • Indoor rock climbing – a great way to add variety to your routine, rock climbing done on indoor climbing routes combines the best features of strength training and cardio workout and it is also great for mental and emotional health.  To see how your body best responds to exercise, look at getting a fit DNA test and discover what exercise your body requires.
